Thats Ba-na-na’s!.. Rachel Zoe at Selfridges

Waiting with anticipation for Rachel to take her seat..

Clothing from Rachel’s clothing line available at Selfridges.

And then the goodie bag... inside was Marie Claire magazine, 2 nail varnish’s, a Rachel Zoe make up bag and a pack of Dermalogica skincare products.

Caught mid-speech talking to the camera about her Marie Claire interview.

Yesterday I got the amazing opportunity to head to Selfridges and hear Rachel Zoe talk about her career in fashion and her tips on how to get into the fashion industry yourself.

I was so unbelievably excited to hear this interview and get to meet Rachel. She’s a hugely successful celebrity stylist, become designer, tv star and celebrity in her own right.
The thing that strikes me mostly about her is her humility. I’ve seen it from watching her show, ‘The Rachel Zoe Project’. It was one thing that has made me admire her so much, not just how hard she works, how busy, how extremely driven, passionate and successful she is, but how friendly and respectful she is of other people. I think this is what makes her so endearing as an individual person. This isn’t 'The Devil Wears Prada’ scenario we expect to find in Fashion these days. She spoke about this in the interview..
She claimed she was once told if she kept being so nice she would never make it in this industry and she said she never believed it and refused to believe it! She said that you don’t need to step on any toes to get ahead, which is so refreshing to hear from her in this competitive industry. One of her top tips was to be nice. “Genuinely nice” to people.  She is no diva in anyway, she was so down to earth and real and so willing to help and answer questions. She is genuinely nice!

Her other tip about getting into the industry was to pretty much do everything you can work wise, placement and internship-wise. You have to stay late, and come early. Be eager and show that you really want this and it’ll show and you WILL stand out. She said once she hired a girl and after her first morning job moaned she was tired, Rachel said that really made her think this girl isn’t going to last long here.. and she obviously didn’t. You need to really want this and you’ll have to work to your best and tireless ability to be able to climb the ladder. Find any contacts you have in the fashion industry.. it’s a very tight knit circle and a lot of people know a lot of people. “Just don’t stalk!” She said. Which made me giggle a bit, as i know full well about 99% of people in the room kind of stalk her twitter and website  whenever we get the chance :)

When asked who she’d most like to style she answered “I would love to style the Dutchess” and said how chic she was “I would love to see her in a winter white tuxedo it would be so chic, kind of androgynous but very, very chic!” I’d love to see that too!

“I don’t like when people follow trends too much because it’s on the runway, I think you really have to think what your own personal style is, who you are as a person, what you’re trying to say, what your life is like.”
- This is the best advice! I’ve seen so many people trying to follow different styles or dress like others but it’s when they find their own interest, their own style, their own art when they truly blossom and look their best. Her book describes how you should look at yourself, your likes and dislikes. What works on you an what doesn’t. Look for inspiration and start collecting images and looks that inspire you and that you love and start creating your own personal style.

Her own style and her own designed pieces available for us to buy she describes as ‘timeless’ which is a huge plus! She says they’re pieces you can wear season in and season out.. before you buy a top, trousers or bag look at it and think are you going to be able to wear this in a couple of months? Or is it a spontaneous trend that’s going to change and go out of fashion as quick as it became popular and in fashion. It’s advice that can really help your bank account and your long term style!

Her big secret to looking fabulous all the time when asked she answered “you have to own what you’re wearing” Wearing a pair of heels, a dash of red lipstick and combing your hair was her tip!

To some up... She’s a massively inspirational lady. From her own impeccable taste and personal style.. to her tireless styling of others. Her passion is just so plain to see throughout her interview and The Rachel Zoe Project on TV. I find it hard to not feel a buzz of ideas, inspiration and creation in my head after listening/watching her.  If you don’t have her book already, id really recommend reading it. They say don’t meet your ‘heroes/idols’ because you’ll be disappointed... she’s someone i really look up to was not disappointment! True talent... and i’m off to watch the rest of her series! xo

P.s... forgot to say. Isn’t her sequin jacket a beaut?! xo
